Forgotten As If You Never Were
تُنسـى كأنّـك لم تـكن

“تُنسـى كأنّـك لم تـكن”
التعلق بمعنى النسيان “كحبّ عابر”، “كوردة في الليل”، “شخصاً ونصاً”، “منْ سيقولُ شعراً”، “أمام البيت”، “أثراً وحدساً”، “الطريق”، “نثر الكلام الذهبيّ”، “منْ سيتبعني؟”، “حديقة الذاكرة” .. :كلّ الذي مرّ ليس عناوين قصائد في ديوان طريّ، لكنّها أسماء لوحات الفنّان عبّاس يوسف التي أنجزهـا فيما كان متعلّقاً بمعنى النسيـان، لا النسيان نفسه، إذ أن المصدر الغنّي للنفس في حضور الأشياء لا الأشياء نفسها، في عمليّة معقدّة، يتسابق فيها حضور الشيء ومعناه، وصورة اللوحة وتأويلها، ومهمة اللوحة ومهمة معناها، التمدد في الأولى والتوقّف في الثانية، نميّز على إثرها الفنان من غيره، أقصد الفنّ من غيره أيضاً. ليست أسماء اللوحات -في الأعلى- تأويلاً لها، لكنهّا شيئاً رهيفاً جداً من تعلّق عباس يوسف بمعنى النسيان كحالةً يوميّةً. رأيتُه يضع معنىً جديداً للنسيان مقاوماً للنسيان نفسه، يحمله، يتعلّق به وبمعناه، في كلّ لحظات إنتاج لوحاته، حتى أظُنّ أن الذي ينظر إليها يستطيع أن يلمسها بنظره ولا ينسى.

Clinging to the meaning of oblivion through phrases such as Fleeting Love, A Rose in the Night, A Person and a Script, Who Will Recite Poetry? In Front Of The House, Impact and Intuition, The Path, Golden Prose, Who Will Follow Me? The Garden of Memory – None of these phrases are the titles of poems in a charming compilation, but the names of the paintings by artist Abbas Yousif. Each painting was completed at a time when Yousif was fascinated with the meaning of oblivion, not oblivion itself, given that the rich source of the soul is in the presence of things and not the things themselves. It is a complex process, with things racing between the presence of things and their meaning, the image of the painting and its interpretation, the mission of the painting and the mission of its meaning, elaborating the former and posing at the latter. This allows us to distinguish the artist from others and his art from others. The names of the paintings are not an interpretation of them, but very delicate reflections of Yousif’s attachment to the meaning of oblivion as a daily event. I saw him give new meaning to oblivion, resisting oblivion itself, carrying it, relating to it and its meaning, during each moment of creating his paintings, so that whoever looks at them can touch them with their eyes and never forget them.

مفارقة الصمت
بين المنحوتات واللوحات، نستكشف الشخصيات التي تعرض التنوع الثقافي وجيلًا ثوريًا قويًا قادرًا على تغيير أدواراللعبة. مزيجٌ من رموز الثقافة الشعبية والفولكلور المَحَلّيّ والأشكال الصلبة والديناميكية، تتصادم جميعها معاً، ممّا يخلق أنواعًا عديدة من التعبيرات والتفاعلات البشرية. في هذا الوقت، لا بد من وجود مفارقةٍ للصمت إذا أردنا إجراء تغيير؛ لأن اللحظةَ التي تتوقف فيها عن الحديث هي اللحظةُ التي ستكون فيها صامتًا إلى الأبد. كما نعلم أن الجدران لها آذان ولكننا ما زلنا بحاجة لمن يستمع.

Paradox of Stillness
Through sculptures and paintings, we discover characters who showcase cultural diversity and a powerful revolutionary generation, one that is capable of changing the rules of the game. A mix of pop-culture symbols, folklore as well as both rigid and dynamic forms collide to create numerous human expressions and interactions. In this time, the paradox of stillness is crucial in order to make a change because the moment you stop talking about it, you will be in silence forever. The walls have ears, but we still need someone to listen.

هكذا أراها
ما بين التشخيص والتجريد نسعى لسبر أعماق العلاقة البصرية التي تستكشف المعنى والشكل في موضوع المعرض، المرأة، الكائن الممتلئ بالفضول الجمالي ويفيض بالاحتمالات التي تستفز الفنان وتطلق أفضل ما فيه من حس ومن إبداع، ويشحذ تلك الرغبة بلمس أقصى حدود الممكن والمحتمل في الفكرة/الأنثى وما يستنطق الذاكرة ويوقد الدهشة للوصول إلى ما وراء التأويل سواء في الشكل الوفيّ للمشخَّص أو التجريد الذي يبحث عن الدلالة والجمالية المتناهية بعيداً عن مرجعية الشكل القابل للتفسير. هذا الجدل ليس غاية في حد ذاته، بل تقنية وأسلوب تفكير يقرنُ بين الموضوع كمرجعية بصرية وبين ما بعد الشكل كاحتمالية جمالية للمعالجة الفنية وللمقاربة بين الفكرة والشكل كأدوات للوصول إلى عمل فني خالص له هويته واستقلاليته

How I See Her
Through analysis and conceptualization, we explore the depths of the visual relationship that realizes both the meaning and form of the woman, the subject of this exhibition. The woman, who is full of artistic curiosity and overflows with possibilities, provokes the artists to unleash both their feelings and their creativity. This desire, in turn, is harnessed in order to reach the greatest limits of possibilities as well as what is probable about the female form. This entails the revival of memories and igniting wonder to reach beyond interpretation, whether in an arrangement that remains faithful to the personified or one that is more abstract in its search for significance and finite aesthetics away from the interpretable form. This debate is not an issue in itself, but a technique and manner of thinking that pairs the subject as a visual reference with the form as an aesthetic possibility in a way that imposes artistic processing and compares the idea to the method as a means to achieve artwork in its purest form, with its own identity and independence.

في رسوماتي محاولة لرصد إشراقات الروح عبر رمزية الشمس والقمر وأفـلاك أخرى، أمـا اللون والظـل والضـوء فهم رُسل لـترجمة ما يختلج في القلب من مشاعر حينما تأتي تلك الومضـة الـخاطفة لتعبر نافذة العين أو تطرق باب القلب فتـتـلقاها الروح وتتركها خفيفه مشـرقة لا يحـدها زمان ولا مكان. هي إشراقة روح نتذوق فيهـا معنى الخلــود في لحظة واحـدة تأتي بغتة ولا تحب الإنتـظـار

Radiance
Through my paintings, I attempt to capture the radiance of the soul through the symbolism of celestial orbs including the sun, the moon, and other spheres. I harness the power of color, shadows, and light, using them as messengers to reflect hidden feelings. When lightning flashes through the window of the eyes or knocks on the door of the heart, the soul receives it and turns it into a shining light that is limited by neither time nor place. It is through the radiance of a soul that we savor the meaning of eternity in one moment that arrives suddenly and just as unexpectedly ends.

Dar Art Fair

Dar Art Fair • مهرجان دار آرت الفني

The launch of Dar Art Fair in Amman features local galleries and independent artists gathered for three weeks at Sweifieh Village from Monday 14 June – Sunday 4 July, 2021.

For this first edition, the fair brings you the best of what the local visual art scene offers. Showcasing collections from 11 galleries and more than 70 independent artists, the fair aims to bring together the scene’s established and emerging talents in one location.

The fair includes participation by Jordanian artists as well as artists from the Arab world including Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq.

The exhibited selection aims to shed light on the ever-growing art scene in Jordan, from plastic art to sculpture to audio-visual installations. We are paying tribute to established artists who have paved the way for the scene to flourish, as well as highlighting emerging artists who are setting the tone for a forward-moving landscapes in art.

Orient Gallery, in cooperation with the AUB Alumni Club of Jordan and Taawon, holds an exhibition of more than 30 Arab artists who have united in solidarity with the Palestinian people and the extreme hardships they continuously face. All proceeds of this exhibition, which showcases more than 45 exceptional pieces, will go to Palestine through Taawon.

Orient Gallery: Third Dimension – بُعد ثالث

With Third Dimension, Orient Gallery sheds light on artistic examinations by two artists whose unique journeys into art are replete with ingenuity and visual aesthetics. Through “Soul Flutes…Nostalgia,” Mohammad Nasrallah presents a collection of living emblems that soar with a yearning for life and the search for the meaning of beauty and love, collectively realizing dreams. He seeks to open a window for freedom and beauty, two values without which a human cannot exist. Thus, through colors, he carries on his search for truths about himself and the world. Bader Mahasneh’s works complete the search for visual relationships that represent beauty, with elements that vary in texture, volume, size, transparency and form coming together in unfamiliar syntheses. Through his art, he finds the potential in smaller objects, which achieve visual ascendancy and surpass their size by utilizing stones more familiarly used in jewelry making rather than sculptures.

في معرض “بُعد ثالث” يسلط دار المشرق الضوء على تجربتين لفنانين تزخر مسيرتهما الفنية المتفردة بالإبداع والجمالية البصرية. يقدم محمد نصر الله في مجموعته “نايات الروح ..هناك أمل”، رموزاً تعيش، وتحلّق بكل ما فيها من شوق للحياة، بحثاً عن معنى للجمال، والحب وصولاً إلى الحلم ويسعى لفتح نافذة للجمال والحرية وهُما قيمتان لا يدرك الانسان وجوده بغيرهما، وهكذا يحمل اللون بعيداً في كل مرة لما يسعى لإدراكه في نفسه، وفي العالم. وتأتي تجربة بدر محاسنة استكمالا للبحث في العلاقات البصرية المُشكِلة للجمال، بين عناصر متباينة في الملمس والحجم والشفافية والتكوين الجيولوجي، عن طريق وضعها في توليفات خارج المألوف، والبحث في إمكانيات الأحجام الصغيرة في تحقيق سطوة بصرية تتجاوز حجمها، وذلك باستخدام أحجار مألوفة في صناعة المجوهرات وغير مألوفة في النحت

Orient Gallery: Hope is My Strength

 
الأمل قوتي
في هذه التجربة الثنائية بين الفنانين محمد العامري”الأردن” وحسن المسعود ” العراق- فرنسا” نقف أمام تجربتين تشكلان صورة من تحولات الكائن في الدفاع عن وجوده في زمن الجائحة، فالعامري ذهب ليرمم عزلته بألوان مستمدة من مشهديات الطبيعة التي تنزح نحو التجريد، لكن المسعود قد ذهب إلى موسقة الحرف العربي عبر لغة فنية مختلفة في صياغاتها البصرية وبنائيتها.
جناحان من الضوء يحلقات في فضاء الحياة للدفاع عنها عبر الجمال لا غيره، ليكون الجمال جوهر الوجود في حياة تعاني من انتكاسات جمّة وحروب حصدت فكرة الإيقاع، فكانت كورونا هي التحدي الاكبر أمام تجربتين في الفن ليقدما جملة من نبضها ووجودها للكائنات

Hope is my Strength
In the joint exhibition by Jordanian artist Mohammad Al Ameri and Iraqi-French artist Hassan Massoudy, observers find themselves viewing two artistic experiments that depict the Being’s metamorphosis in a bid to protect its existence amid the pandemic. During his time of isolation, Al Ameri experimented with colors he derived from abstract-inclined spectacles of nature, while Massoudy opted for Arabic lettering in an artistic language that is unique in its visual composition and design.
Two wings created from light, soaring high in life’s universe, defending it through beauty alone. Thus, beauty becomes the essence of existence in a life suffering from difficulties and strife that have destroyed the notion of rhythm. The coronavirus proved to be the biggest challenge for these two artistic experiments, which sought to produce works that reflect the Being’s energy and existence.

ظل مفقود
ظـلت غـرنـاطـة تـراودنـي بـعد أن غادرتها، كأنها مـدیـنة الـتصقت بـذاكـرتـي إلـى الأبـد، فـما زلـت أتـأمـل الـفعل الجـمالـي فـي الـمكان ھـناك، مـن عـمائـر وحـدائـق ونـقوش تھـدّم ظلها وتـبدّل مساراتها فـي كـل لحـظة عـبر الـتخفي والظهور ، بـدأت اقـتفي أثـر الـزمـن لاسـترجـاع ظـل اللحـظة ھـناك، ورغـم ابـتعاد الـمسافـة عـنھا الآن، مـا زلـت أتـأمـل الـمفقود فـي ظلالها كـفعل تـراكـمي فـي الـمكان، إذ یـشف عـن مـرایـا الـزمـن الـساكـن والمتحـرك، إلـى جـانـب الـشعر الـذي یسـرد سـیرة الـفقد فـي الـنقش كسـیرة حـرف سـقط مـن تـرجـمة بـاحـث فـي مخـطوط كـتبه عاشق في لحظة ما.
تـأخـذنـي الـعمائـر الأندلسية بتشكيلها الجـمالـي مـن خـلال اسـتخدام الـظلال الـتي تھـدف الـى تـزیـین الـمبانـي وحـمایـة الـعناصـر، تـشكیل الـمرشـوم بـالـعناصـر الجمالية عـلى الجـدران الـمنفذة بـالـحفر الـغائـر والـبارز، إذ تتجـلى الـصور بتحويراتها الزمنية عـبر رحـلة الـشمس ومسـیرھـا الـیومـي، حـیث تـتدفـق الحـركـة عـلى الجـدران الـذي واظـب الـفنان الـمعماري الأنـدلسـي عـلى نـقش وحـداتـه الزخرفية والخـطیة، فـحفر الـقصائـد عـلى واجـھات الجـدران ومـن خـلال اسـتدراج الـظل ومـفاراقـات الـنور فـي كـل مـساحـة فـي نـصوص الـقصائـد، وصـولا إلـى الـمفقود والـمتآكـل مـن انـشاء ھـندسـي سـقط بـفعل الـزمـن، أو مـن حـرف تحـررّ مـن جسـد الـشكل الـى روح الـظل حیث یتساوى الظل والشكل كما یتساوى المتن والھامش في المخطوط.
فـالـظل بـالنسـبة لـي مـفردة مسـتقلة وذات قـیمة مـتفرّدة لأنـھا شـكل قـائـم بحـد ذاتـه وھـو مـرآة یـبدعـھا الـضوء، تحویر للشكل وتمرّد علیه، وتأویل بعید للمخیلة.
بقي ظلًّ المفردات یراودني في حوار لم ینتهِ بعد،
غـرنـاطـة ھـي ذاتـھا الـرمـانـة الـمقدسـة الـتي تـتمرأى فـي أعـمالـي وتـتحول كـرمـز للجـمال والأنـوثـة، فـتارة تـكون بجوار المرأة التي تنظر إلیھا بصمت وتارة تتنقل إلى الطاولات والكراسي الخالیة.
الـرمـان الـذي ارتـبط بـمدیـنة غـرنـاطـة والـذي أخـذ ظـلھا رمـزا ً لـلمدیـنة، أعـادنـي إلـى رحـلة ھـذه الـنبتة الـتي سـافـرت مـن بـلاد الـشام إلـى الأنـدلـس، وكـانـت فـاتـحة الـفعل الجـمالـي ھـناك، وقـلباً یـملأه الـزمـرد الأحـمر كـحباّت ضوء تنبض بالمكان؛ كما یقول الشاعر الغرناطي لوركا:
الرمانة المعطّرة
سماءُ بلورية
كل حبةّ نجمة
وكل غشاء غروب
من ھناك بدأ نسیج أعمالي متواشجا ً ومتقاطعا مع تلك الظلال الذائبة في جدران الذاكرة، ظل غرناطة وتكسرات النور على العمائر حلم ظل یسكنني في الحلم والمخیلة والذكریات، حلم یسري في نسیج أعمالي الفنیة، انھا اللذة الأبدية التي لا نھایة لھا.

Lost Shadow
Even after I left Granada, it continued to haunt me, as if it were a city clinging to my memories forever. I still remember its beauty, the buildings, the gardens, and the inscriptions casting their shadows and changing paths every other second, by disappearing and reappearing once again. I began to contemplate the evidence of time to recapture the shadows that I lost there. And despite the distance, I still reflect on what is lost among its shadows, images that I replay over and over in my head, along with the poetry that narrates the story of the loss in the inscriptions in the form of a letter fragment missed by a researcher’s translation of a manuscript written by a lover at some point.
The beauty of Granada’s Andalusian buildings captures my interest through their use of shadows, which decorate buildings and protect their elements. The clay walls are formed in a fashion that brings out their maximum beauty, with indents and protrusions that reflect their images all around through the daily journey of the sun. This is as the artist had intended it, an Andalusian architect who engraved decorative and calligraphic units, embedding poems on the facades of the walls using shadows and shades of light in every text of this poetry, leading up to what has been lost and depleted from the architectural creation by time or a letter that escaped the body of the form to become a soul of the shadows, where shadows and forms become equal, like content and margins are equal in a manuscript.
For me, the shadow has an independent and unique value because it is a self-standing form, a mirror created by light, a change in the form and rebellion against it, and a distant interpretation of the imagination.
The shadow of the vocabulary continued to intrigue me in a dialogue that has not ended yet.
Granada is the same sacred pomegranate that appears in my work and turns into a symbol of beauty and femininity. Sometimes it is next to the woman who gazes at it silently and sometimes it moves to the empty tables and chairs.
The pomegranate, which is closely associated with the city of Granada, in a color that is a symbol of the city, led me to the journey of this plant travelling from the Levant to Andalusia, and there I found beauty in the form of a heart full of red rubies, like fragments of light that beat with life. As the Andalusian poet, Lorca, says:
The fragrant pomegranate
A crystal sky
Each seed
A star.
And each peel
A sunset.
From there, I began weaving my works, intertwined and intersecting with those melting shadows on the walls of memory. The shadows of Granada and the refraction of light on its buildings remained a dream residing in me, in my thoughts, my imagination and in my memories. A dream that weaves itself in the fabric of my artworks. It is the eternal pleasure that has no end.
